Our ‘Early Years’ room is where your child will come in their key formative years. We welcome children from ages 2 ½ -3 ½ (approx.) to our Early Years room and this is where they will be encouraged to make more decisions with a variety of free choice activities and toys to choose from. It is so important to introduce choices to children at this key age so that they really become involved in daily routines and it gives us ideas of what they would like to do in their nursery day.
Imogen, Sophie, Carla and Lauren make up our Early Years team and are integral to working alongside your child to expand their vocabulary and learning whilst combining all the skills they have gained since entering First Steps. Your little ones are encouraged to participate in a mixture of structured activities from creative paintings, to messy games and to explore and investigate at every opportunity alongside using tools and equipment themselves. And, if they still wish to do so, your child can sleep in a restful environment after their lunchtime meal.
The Early Years kids have been enjoying the sunshine out in the fresh air recently. We always encourage them to get outside (when the weather permits) to explore nature and ask questions about what they find. Another reminder that if the weather is looking to be lovely and sunny, we do ask that parents make sure that their child has sun cream with them and a sun hate!
We like to have a real focus on sensory play and activities at this age and have been encouraging the children to play at the sand table and explore their creative side with finger painting. By developing their sensory skills at this age, cognitive growth, motor skills, social interaction and problem solving skills are all supported. It also aids in developing and enhancing memory and is great for calming an anxious or frustrated child.
