|Last month we chatted about our littlest of children. But, very quickly the babies grow up and before any time at all they’re Tweenies.
Our lovely and talented Tweenies team look after children aged around 12 to 18 months. From when walking is established, the team which consists of Chloe Taylor and Tracey O’Hare look after the little ones in their next step of the First Steps journey.
Both Chloe and Tracey hold their NVQ 3 qualification in Child Development and have their current paediatric first aid certificates and are trained in safeguarding to ensure they offer the very best care.
In Tweenies, children start to become a little more independent, as they are becoming more mobile and their curiosity develops, so they are met with a wider variety of toys and activities to help them learn to become more confident. So, a day in this room is often a little more action-packed, the children will still be following their own needs when it comes to sleeps and bottles etc.
Here are just a few of our favourite activities in the Tweenies room:
• Messy play including water play, custard play, baked bean play, mushy pea play, jelly play and gloop play and light sensory activities. Tweenies love to explore and do sensory activities with our team.
• Building towers and structures with the blocks.
• Total free painting – very messy but great fun
• Fruit tasting – exploring new tastes and textures.
We always try and make our Tweenies room a home from home environment where little ones can feel nurtured and loved. As they have normally just turned one, we provide them with constant support and care as they begin to become very active. We use songs, stories and group time to encourage forming and use of first words.
