From: Carla Cotterill, First Steps’ Under 3 Coordinator.

We know that so many parents can find their child’s eating habits frustrating around the toddler years. From refusing food, to throwing items, to generally playing-up at every meal time.

One website we often recommend to parents is the Infant and Toddler Forum and specifically their Portion Sizes for Children 1-4 Years. This clever table shows parents clearly not only the recommended portion sizes but also what types of food an infant should be receiving in each meal. From fruit and vegetables to starchy foods, it really helps highlight what is needed to fill a little one’s tummy. It may also give you some ideas on other ways to get these food groups into mealtimes.

Many parents will often find their child eats better with us here at First Steps, which is not unusual, most children like to copy their peers. If you do have any concerns about your child’s eating, please let the team know, we are always here to help and support you. But for now, take a look at this website – it definitely calmed my own fears with my child’s eating.
