It’s officially Autumn! Time to wave goodbye to summer, wrap up warm and don your wellies to enjoy all the wonderful events that happen at this time of year.

Autumn is, of course, a time of transition both inside and outside the nursery.  We’ve welcomed lots of new starters to our own setting, who have settled in well and been having lots of fun taking part in our exciting activities. We hope all of our families with siblings that have just started their first term in school are coping well with the changeover and new routines.

The changing season is something we’ve been exploring together as part of our Autumn and Harvest themes.  Our little explorers have been outside to see how nature transforms at this time of year.  They have collected objects like pinecones and falling leaves to help them learn about colour, shape and texture through sensory play.

A special visitor to the nursery, Speedy the tortoise, taught the children all about how some animals hibernate at this time of year.  The children loved the interactive animal handling session and it was a fantastic opportunity for them to learn about pets and looking after animals too.

Outside of the autumnal theme, we’ve continued our extremely popular Space topic and the children have also learnt the importance of relaxation and mindfulness with the help of a yoga class.  They did some simple poses, breathing and meditation techniques with Helen from Flexifrogs, who takes them on a story adventure each week.
