As this is our first newsletter of 2020, I’d like to take this opportunity to say Happy New Year and Kung Hei Fat Choy to all of our parents.

Throughout January, both staff and children have really been enjoying learning all about Chinese New Year and Chinese culture. Our food tasting sessions and fortune cookies went down especially well. As 2020 is the Chinese year of the rat, which is said to be the most hardworking of the 12 animals in the cycle, we’ve been very busy. We created fun, craft and learning activities based on the celebration which the children loved getting involved in.

As always, we continue to offer experiences that enrich the children’s learning in the nursery as well as giving them new and exciting experiences. In January, we have launched weekly music classes that are linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. The pre-schoolers have been trying their hand at lots of different instruments and it has been lovely to see them developing new skills and getting more confident each week.

Our weekly Yoga class continues to be very popular and is fabulous for equipping the children with relaxation and mindfulness techniques that will stay with them for life. This class has now moved to Mondays each week.

We had a visit from the charity Dental Playbox to talk to us all about oral health and the importance of keeping our mouths clean and all of our staff have also just completed their paediatric first aid course which take place every two years.

It seems like January has passed in the blink of an eye and in this issue of the newsletter, we’ll be looking forward to Spring, as well as the activities we’ll be covering over the next couple of months. We’ve included some sleep tips for when the lighter evenings arrive, which I’m sure many parents will appreciate when the clocks ‘spring’ forward at the end of March.
